Family
Families bring us a multitude of joy and multitude of stress. I aim to bring balance to a family unit, so each member can feel their best as individuals and strive in a home setting. When one person is struggling, it can have a domino effect on those close. By decreasing these struggles and improving stress management, unwanted arguments can be avoided and peace can increase at home.
Kids and teenagers are undergoing a multitude of changes, it can be difficult for their bodies and mental capacity to stay balanced. On-top of this, many parents and guardians will neglect their own well-being in the process of helping their children. So in treating an adolescent or child, I want to reassure that parents/guardians are receiving proper care for themselves as well.
It is extremely stressful when a child or loved one becomes sick or has a diagnosis. Parents/guardians/adults need to understand that children and teenagers are experiencing an extreme amount of chemical influx; sometimes these influxes are not digested well, not circulating properly or the brain is creating too little or too much of a hormone and this results in negative change/imbalance/mood swings/physical ailments. Sometimes these imbalances are simple, other times it can result in mental instability or physical sickness.
Acupuncture stimulates the nervous system to assure that the brain is receiving proper signals to release healthy amounts of chemicals and hormones; this provides stable growth.
When treating a teenager or child, I make an effort to speak to them on their terms: I want to create space for them to feel heard, have curiosity and I encourage them to ask many questions so that they can be educated about their health and feel safe with needles. I will always do my best to teach patients at-home-techniques that can help them with their conditions. It is important for young people to have tools they can use at home to help.
When treating an infant, the parent will hold the baby in their lap or the baby will be lying comfortably in their stroller. I will often use acupressure massage and teach the parents/guardians what they can do at home for their baby. Needles are rarely used with babies, but in cases where I encourage them, the baby will be held in parent's arms and the needle is only to prick the skin, but never left in. I always make an effort to help baby laugh, smile and feel comforted.
I have experience treating many teenagers and children. The youngest I have treated was a 3 week old baby for colic.
